Shinya Moriyama
Shinya Moriyama is a freelance writer who lives in Nagano, Japan, travels frequently, and works primarily for different outdoor publications. Living near the Japanese Alps, he takes full advantage of the mountains, and spends as much time as possible hiking long distances, stand up paddle board touring, mountain biking and, in the winter, telemark skiing. Year ‘round, he uses his Hilleberg tents. “I have used the Allak, Nallo 2 GT, and Soulo differently based on their personality and the destination climate,” he says. “I have spent over 100 nights with the tents in the land of the midnight sun in Northern Europe, and about the same number of nights spent in the Japanese Alps, where I have used them for long hikes, and up to about 3000 m (9843 ft). In Japan, it rains a lot in summer, and snows a lot in winter. Especially in those conditions, the Hilleberg’s renowned feature of having connected outer and inner tents means you always get the best space between the two tents. In short, my Hilleberg tents are the essential partners for my expeditions. One time, I was setting up my tent near Landmannalaugar, in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve in south central Iceland. There were over 30 tents set up, from all over the world. Suddenly the weather turned bad, with heavy rain and high winds. The area got flooded and some tents were blown away and many of the hikers escaped to a hut. Next morning, there were only 3 tents that survived the storm. One was my Nallo 2 GT, and the other two were also Hilleberg tents. I believe that Hilleberg tents are the strongest tents on the market.”
